Hair shedding – what is normal and what should have you calling your doctor

Everyone experiences some degree of hair shedding. In general, hair shedding is considered normal. But what exactly is normal and what should have you calling your doctor?
According to experts, shedding anywhere from 1-100 hairs a day is in the normal range. That being said, 100 hairs may be a lot for one individual, while not a lot for another. What it really comes down to is what each individual’s ‘normal’ is.
If you normally shed 50 hairs a day, then all of a sudden seeing a spike in shedding of 100 hairs a day for a continued period of time, should be alarming. This is outside the normal range for you, at double the amount of shedding you typically see.
This could be a clear sign of something wrong. While it may be the result of a change in diet, habits, stress, or a new medication, it could be a sign of hair loss. Regardless of the cause, you should call your doctor and try to get to the bottom of it.
The benefit of detecting early hair-loss related causes, is stopping hair loss in its tracks. It is much easier to stop hair loss from progressing when you catch it early on, than to resolve it later on. This is because once a hair follicle dies, it is gone forever. If you can catch a hair follicle before it dies, you have a chance to keep that hair.
If you are experiencing hair shedding that is outside the normal range for you, give your doctor a call. This shedding may lead to hair loss that you can stop before it progresses. If you’d rather meet with a hair loss specialist to evaluate the causes and your options, give us a call today.

The benefits of dry shampoo

Have you heard about dry shampoo? Dry shampoo is a hair-care product that allows you to stretch the time in between hair washing sessions.
How does it work?
Dry shampoo works by absorbing excess oils in your hair. It comes in the form of power or sprays which utilize brand-specific oil-absorbing, cleansing components. It essentially ‘washes’ your hair without any water, hence the name ‘dry shampoo.’
Why is this helpful?
Too much washing contributes to dryness and dullness in your hair. This is because washing hair strips the hair of its natural oils which add the much-needed shine and nutrients your hair craves.
Many factors play a role in how often you should wash your hair, such as sweat, curliness, fineness, and genetics, which determine how much oil your hair secretes and how fast it travels down your hair shaft. Experts suggest washing your hair no more than 3-4 times per week, less if you’re able.
Added benefits
In addition to allowing you to lower the amount of times you need to wash your hair per week, dry shampoo is a great styling product.
Dry shampoo adds texture to your hair, making it easier to style and set your look. Additionally, it adds volume, allowing you to achieve the looks you desire.
Dry shampoo comes in two main forms: the powder and the spray. The powders work great at absorbing oils. The sprays work great at adding volume and setting styles, while also drying out areas that over-saturated with oil.
These products typically contain vitamins and nutrients that are beneficial to your hair. And an added bonus – they smell nice too. Dry shampoo is a smart hair washing and styling alternative, that saves you time and money. Try it out today and let us know how it works for you!

I received a hair transplant a few years ago and now my hair’s falling out again. What’s going on?

Hair falling out just a few years after hair transplant surgery
Unfortunately, this is a situation we see many of our patients in who come to us from other practices. There are many factors that determine the success of your hair transplant both immediately after and later on in the years to come. If any one factor during the hair transplant process is not done correctly, the success of your entire hair transplant is at risk.
The first step in evaluating the cause of hair loss after hair transplant surgery, is to determine if it is the transplanted hairs or native hairs that are falling out. In successful hair transplants, we do not expect to see transplanted hairs falling out. This is because these hairs are not subject to the same hair loss the native hairs are, since they are originally from a healthy donor area.
If it is the transplanted hairs falling out, this is a sign that something went wrong with your hair transplant surgery. Scarring, trauma, and low-graft survival rate are risks of hair transplants done by robotic tools, inexperienced surgeons, and surgeons over-transplanting in mega-sessions all cause hair loss that may be permanent. If this is the case, a restorative hair transplant may be needed to resolve the issues.
More often than not, hair loss experienced after hair transplantation is the surrounding native hairs falling out. While hair transplants are a wonderful solution to resolving the appearance of baldness and thinning, they are not a cure for baldness. In other words, hair transplants will not stop further baldness from happening. This is why we stress the importance of medically managing hair loss via medications such as minoxidil and finasteride especially after hair transplantation. These topical or oral medications can help slow hair loss progression as you age, buying you more time before another hair transplant may be needed.
If you’d like to get a second or third opinion on the results of your hair transplant, give us a call for a consultation today.

How important is a heat protectant product when styling hair?

Are you using a heat protectant before styling your hair with hot tools? If not, you may be damaging your hair.
Hot styling tools are known to cause damage and breakage to your hair. Despite this fact, we continue using hot styling tools such as blow dryers and straighteners to style our hair. This is likely due to the efficacy, ease, and quickness of hot styling tools. While there are some alternative methods to styling hair without heat, they often require more time and a less polished look.
Thankfully, there is a way you can style your hair with hot styling tools and cause less damage. Less damage means healthier, shinier, stronger, and more beautiful hair.
So what’s the secret? Heat protectant products.
Heat protectant products are hair-care products that are applied before styling your hair with hot tools. They are often used on damp hair, before blow-drying or using curling irons, straighteners, or any other heat styling tools. These products can come in the form of a spray, serum, or mousse.
How do they work?
Heat protectant products act as a protective barrier between your hair and the heat imposed by styling tools. This protective shield prevents the heat from permeating the hair strand and damaging the fragile follicle.
While heat protectant products may not eliminate heat damage completely, they can greatly reduce the effects. Besides keeping your hair healthy and less damaged, the products are often infused with vitamins and oils which improve the texture and appearance of your hair.
Next time you style your hair, consider using a heat protectant product first.

Is your hair asking for a fattier diet?

Dietary fat is actually a healthy component of a balanced diet. In fact, it’s necessary for some rather important and relevant body functions, especially if you’re concerned about the health of your hair, skin, and nails.
Dietary fat comes in many different forms. There are healthy fats and unhealthy fats. Unhealthy fats are those found in fried foods and vegetable oils. Healthy fats are derived from avocados, olives, nuts, and consist of omega-3’s like those from salmon and other fish. Healthy fats are also available in supplement form and are known as EFA’s (essential fatty acids). Like the name implies, fatty acids are essential to proper health and body functioning.
In a diet lacking healthy fats, your hair, skin, and nails, may reap the consequences. Healthy fats are like nature’s moisturizing oil. They allow skin to remain soft and supple, hair to retain moisture and luster, and nails to remain healthy and strong.
As diet trends come and go, fats have been blamed and praised. They key is a healthy balance. Too much fat (even the healthy kind) can cause unwanted weight gain. Too little and your hair, skin, and nails may become dry, brittle, and damaged.
While some individuals (read: men) may not think dry skin, hair, or nails is of much concern to them, this is likely because they haven’t gone long without EFA’s. Anyone who’s tried a no-fat diet is familiar with the repercussions. Dry skin means itchiness and irritation, which can occur on the scalp as well. Dry hair means breakage, split ends, and lack of hair growth (under-nourished hair follicles means no hair growth).
Take a look at your diet and evaluate how much EFA’s you’re incorporating.

Suffer from scalp psoriasis? Try coal tar.

Do you suffer from scalp psoriasis?
Scalp psoriasis is a type of psoriasis (skin condition causes by a buildup of dead skin cells) that effects the scalp. It is often concealed under the hair, but can cause a multitude of problems to those who suffer from the condition.
Scalp psoriasis is similar to traditional psoriasis in its symptoms: itchy, flaky scales, redness, irritation, and if left untreated, hair loss. Psoriasis scales can be quite unsightly and uncomfortable.
Thankfully, there are options for those afflicted by the condition.
Steroidal medication is a proven prescription method in treating psoriasis. It can be taken in the form of a pill or ointment. The downside to this treatment method is that in order to remain effective over time, the treatment must be stopped after a certain amount of time (usually 2 weeks) whether or not the symptoms have subsided.
Salicylic acid is another proven course of treatment, specifically for those who suffer from scalp psoriasis. It is often an added component to psoriasis shampoos, and works to counteract the psoriasis. Unfortunately, this treatment isn’t effective for everyone.
Coal tar is a less common but extremely effective treatment for psoriasis, especially when it occurs on the scalp. Coal tar can be added to ointments or shampoos and is found at pharmacies. The coal tar works to neutralize the psoriasis, preventing the buildup of skin cells that creates the itchy and annoying scales.
If you suffer from scalp psoriasis and haven’t had success with steroidal or salicylic acid treatments, give coal tar a try. It’s safe and effective, and may be the key to treating your psoriasis.

Baldness: what do your hair genetics say about you?

Our hair dictates a major portion of our appearance. No hair, full head of hair, thinning hair, curly hair, straight hair, dark hair, light hair – hair can change your look completely.
But can your hair change more about you than just your appearance? Like say, how you’re perceived by others? According to some new studies out of the University of Pennsylvania, it can.
These new studies researched the connection between the presence or absence of hair and how dominant individuals were perceived to be. Across the board, both men and women consistently rated bald men as more dominant than their hairier counterparts. Even going as far to perceive the men as stronger and taller.
Sound to be good to true? The same men and women who rated the bald men more dominant, taller, and stronger, also rater the bald men as less-attractive and older-looking overall. Darn. It seems balding men just can’t catch a break.
So, what have we learned? The presence or absence of hair greatly effects your appearance. It also effects how dominant and attractive others perceive you to be.
The take home? Ultimately, dominance and attractiveness are about being comfortable in one’s own skin. There are plenty of dominant full-haired men as well as plenty of attractive bald men. It’s all about your confidence.
If your baldness if weighing down on your confidence and self-esteem, you may want to consider your options. There are surgical and non-surgical options for restoring your hair and bringing back your confidence.

Does it matter who does your PRP therapy?

PRP stands for Platelet Rich Plasma. PRP therapy refers to a treatment used to reverse or treat hair loss as well as rejuvenate skin on the face or other areas of the body.
PRP involves taking a small amount of your own blood and separating out plasma and other healing agents that stimulate cell turnover and collagen regeneration. PRP therapy works to stimulate hair follicles, promoting hair growth and reduce scarring and wrinkles on the skin.
While PPR has shown great results in balding and wrinkling individuals, it’s important to note that not all PRP treatments are created equal.
Due to the higher cost of PRP treatments compared to other hair loss or wrinkle reduction treatments on the market, we see many patients who ‘shop’ around in an effort to find the best deal in town. The problem with this is that when it comes to PRP therapy, you generally get what you pay for. Cheaper prices correlate to cheaper processing equipment and less doctor involvement which correlate to less efficacy.
See, PRP therapy is a very involved procedure that involves advanced hands on technique by the doctor as well as high grade equipment to efficiently and effectively separate plasma and added components for increased benefit. Cutting corners to save money means cutting crucial aspects of the therapy.
Therefore, it matters greatly who does your PRP therapy. You can’t expect to have the same great results we see with true PRP therapy if you choose a provider who uses subpar separating mechanisms, no added nutrients, and is minimally involved.
Keep this in mind when exploring providers for PRP therapy, especially when seeking PRP for hair loss.

Should you be concerned with complications from hair transplant surgery?

Hair transplants are a common medical procedure sought out by those seeking an aesthetic improvement to their balding hair.
In a hair transplant surgery, your own natural hair is transplanted from a place of fullness to a place of balding. Hair transplants are a great tool for those who are seeking a natural-looking solution to balding and hair loss.
In general, hair transplants are safe and effective. But like any medical procedure there are possible risks and complications.
In hair transplant procedures, possible complications include infection, bruising, swelling, scarring, scabbing, inflammation, and hair loss.
How common are these complications and when you should you be concerned with them?
Anytime you’re undergoing a medical procedure you should always make yourself informed of the risks and possible complications. This is good practice as a patient and will help you make informed decisions.
The occurrence of these complications in hair transplants depends on a few key factors: experience of the hair transplant surgeon, location of the surgery, and good aftercare by the patient.
Surgeon experience
The risk of complications such as scarring, infection, bruising, and hair loss can be greatly reduced if a skilled and experienced hair transplant surgeon is conducting the procedure. There are modern techniques and tools which minimize potential risks.
Location of the procedure
There is a trend among those seeking cosmetic procedures to go abroad for their surgeries in an effort to save money. This trend is dangerous and can have unfortunate consequences. The risk of all complications of hair transplantation increase dramatically when you leave the US to get the surgery done. This is because medical doctors in other countries such as Turkey (a popular hair transplant destination) are not held to the same high standard doctors are in the US. A large majority of patients who seek restorative hair transplants are victim of foreign botched hair transplants. We see a high rate of shock hair loss, scarring, and infection, all of which can have permanent, irreversible repercussions.
Patient aftercare
It is very important to follow your doctor’s aftercare instructions. Keeping the areas clean, avoiding certain medications, incorporating ice, and taking it easy so your body can heal all play a role in post-hair transplant complications.

An easy guide to dressing stylish

Men, it can be hard to dress stylish. Trends are always changing, finding the perfect fit can seem an impossible task, and prices seem to go up every season.
Dressing with style gives off the impression you’ve got it together (whether that’s true or not is beside the point). It’s not about copying anyone else, it’s about finding what works for you, what’s flattering, and what fits your budget.
Let us make it easy for you! We’ve compiled a list of tips on how to dress stylish, easily, and budget friendly. Seriously, you won’t be able to mess up these looks up and they’ll transcend the seasons!
The white button up
You can’t go wrong with this staple. Find a couple white buttoned shirts that fit your shape well and comfortably. For men who prefer a fitted shape, you’ll want to look for a ‘slim’ fit. Then, make this shirt your best friend. You can pair it with slacks for a business casual look, khakis for a day out, or jeans for a casual look. The white button up is the easiest, most versatile, and most affordable style tool in your closet. Use it!
Ditch the graphic tees
Your graphic tees are aging you (in the wrong direction). While graphic tees may be ‘cool,’ ‘witty,’ or ‘reminiscent,’ they aren’t doing your any favors in the maturity arena. If they’ve got sentimental anchors, keep them for sleep or work out tees.
Neutral colors are smooth
While bright colors will definitely make you stand out, it may not be in the positive light you’d hoped. Neutral colors are much more pleasing to the eye. This goes for jeans as well as tops. Acid wash or other artificial washes often give off the impression you’re trying too hard. Keep it cool with a neutral, darker-wash jean. You can’t go wrong with a good pair of Levi’s.

How dense should transplanted hair be?

If you’ve been researching hair transplants, you’ve likely come across a picture or two of a sparse, plug-like looking hair transplant. When there’s lots of space in between hair follicles, more scalp shows through, creating a balding or thinning appearance to the hair. If you’re looking for a hair transplant, you’re likely looking to resolve balding or thinning as much as possible, not highlight it further by having scarcely place follicles across your scalp.
But just how dense should transplanted hair be?
Well, there isn’t a simple answer to this question.
The density of transplanted hair depends on two factors: the density of the surrounding healthy native hair and the hair transplant surgeon’s technique and ability.
With hair transplants, we strive for natural looking, full hair coverage. Therefore, you’d want the transplanted area to fit in and flow nicely with the surrounding areas, matching the density of the full, healthy-haired areas. This will keep the hair looking natural and keep you from looking like you had a procedure done.
That leads us to our second factor in density: the surgeon’s abilities. If a surgeon’s abilities or experience are lacking, you’re going to get the best hair transplant s/he can give you rather than the best hair transplant for you. This is why experience and techniques are so important when searching for a hair transplant surgeon. The punch size, placing by hand versus robotic assistance, and involvement of the surgeon will directly affect the density of the transplanted hair and the overall hair appearance. Over-sized punches, robotic tools, and the absence of surgeons during procedures are directly correlated to poor results such as a plug-like or thinly covered recipient zone.
Don’t let this happen to you. Ensure your hair transplant looks natural and appropriately-dense. Give us a call for a consultation today.

Should you use a colored toning shampoo?

Anyone who’s colored their hair has witnessed first-hand the color change that occurs over time. You know how it goes, you leave the salon with your new color feeling amazing. Your hair is bright, dimensional, and perfect. Over the next few weeks your hair begins to change color. It might get brassy, show yellow or red hues, and dull. This can be due to washing, the environment, style tools, or the chemistry of your hair (fine, wavy hair loses color faster).
If this has happened to you, you may want to jump on the color shampoo train. Colored shampoos are shampoos that contain ingredients meant to counteract color change in dyed hair.  The idea is to keep your hair looking as true-to-color as possible until your next hair coloring or toning appointment.
Colored shampoo comes in a few different options. Most popular is silver, blue, and purple. When you wash your hair with colored shampoo, the pigment is actually deposited into your hair. These colors counteract the colors you don’t want, keeping it true to your dyed color.
Colored shampoo is beneficial to blondes, graceful greys, redheads, and even brunettes. The tone-cancelling goodness may not be as evident in darker-tones but it’ll still prevent unwanted colors from peeking through.
If you aren’t sure which color shampoo is best for you, ask your hair stylist at your next appointment. They’ll be able to determine which color will best counteract the tones your hair is prone to turning.

Here’s how to style your hair with less heat damage

It’s no secret that hot styling tools are harmful to your hair. The heat can wreak havoc, causing damage to the hair’s follicle. Damaged hair means dullness and split-ends which lead to frizziness and breakage. No one wants that for their hair, but what’s a person to do?
Luckily, there are many ways to style your hair that don’t involve heat. So put the straightener, curling iron, and blow dryer down and get to styling your hair naturally and healthily.
Go wavy.
Depending on your natural hair, how you go about this style look will differ. If you’ve got naturally straight hair, you’ll need to add some product to give texture and dimension to your hair. Try some mousse, styling cream, or texturizing spray. There’s no rules here, just make sure it won’t weigh down your hair.
If you’ve got wavy or curly hair, you’ll just need to focus on the few way-ward pieces that have a mind of their own. You can do this by physically manipulating the hair with twists or bobby-pins. Add texturizing or hair spray so your look will last all day long.
Try your hand at a braid or braids.
Braids can be used as a style tool or by themselves. If you want to use them to as a tool, simply towel dry hair, detangle with a comb, and separate into sections braiding from the mid-shaft down to the ends.
If you want to use them as your look for the day, get creative! Our favorite (and easiest!) is a piece-y braid with one braid down the back started at either the top or middle. You can finish the hair down towards the end or wrap it in a bun for a different look. Pull pieces down around the face to give it a natural boho-look.
The most important thing to remember is there’s no limit or rules when it comes to styling your hair without heat. Don’t be afraid to try something different.

Naps: harmful of beneficial?

Are naps harmful or beneficial? This long-held debate has some research behind it that may change the way you think about naps.
Naps have been around forever. Your grandparents did it (and still do) and even your hardworking ancestors. Historians actually claim that modern day sleeping habits (i.e., 7-8 hours a night, uninterrupted, etc.) are just that – modern. They say that our ancestors would sleep 3-4 hours at a time, waking to do much needed farm, labor, and house work.
While we don’t need to wake up in the middle of night to do chores anymore, many still find themselves needing a rest mid-day. Whether due to sleep deprivation or much-needed relaxation time, naps can be both harmful and beneficial, depending how you do it.
While naps can reduce tiredness, boost alertness, improve mood, as well as improve work or school performance, they aren’t for everyone. Naps can cause grogginess upon waking and sleep problems at night, especially if you’re prone to bouts of insomnia.
That being said, there are ways in which you can nap that can boost the beneficial effects and ward off the harmful ones.
When should you nap?
Listen to your body. If you’re feeling extremely fatigued, take the nap.
Plan ahead. If you know you’ll be missing out on sleep later, plan ahead and take a nap. Your body will thank you later.
How should you nap?
Keep it short. Keep your naps between 10-30 minutes. This will help you rejuvenate quickly, without effecting your sleep later.
Find your restful place. Napping where its quiet and comfortable will ensure those 10-30 minutes are as restful as possible.
Ultimately, listen to your body. You know your body better than anyone else. Happy napping!

Forehead reduction surgery vs. hair transplant surgery

We all have something that negatively effects our self-esteem and causes us to feel self-conscious. For some, hair loss, scars, a large nose, or a large forehead may be the source of blame.
Cosmetic surgery has sought to resolve some of these sources of self-consciousness. Hair transplants can eliminate baldness, lasers can lighten scars, rhinoplasty can fix your nose, and forehead reduction surgery can make your forehead smaller.
Unfortunately, some of these procedures are not without their complications. We are often asked what the best course of treatment is for a large forehead or a set back hairline. The answer is best determined by not only determining the cause of the enlarged forehead, but also weighing the pros and cons of the treatment options.
More often than not, when people are referring to the size of their forehead, they also mention their hairline. They often say that their forehead has gotten larger over the years, and that their hairline used to be more forward. This is not a case of a naturally large forehead, rather it’s a case of receding hairline hair loss. If you have a receding hairline, and are looking to restore your forehead and hairline to more natural and youthful proportions, you should be looking at hair transplant surgery over forehead reduction surgery.
If you have had a naturally large forehead or naturally set back hairline your entire life, you can still look into hair transplant surgery as a solution. Just because your genetics have programmed your hairline to start farther back, does not mean it must remain that way forever. Hair transplants can be a great tool in allowing people to achieve a more youthful hairline, even if they never had one to begin with.
If you are not a candidate for hair transplant in either scenario, and find yourself looking into forehead reduction surgery as an alternative option, we urge caution. Forehead reduction surgeries are often plagued with complications such as visible scarring and nerve damage which cannot be reversed. As with any cosmetic procedure, make sure to ask your provider lots of questions and request before and after photos to evaluate realistic results.

The importance of graft placement in hair transplant surgery

FUE Hair Transplant done by Dr. Amir Yazdan. Individual results vary.
Hair transplant procedures are a great way for those experiencing hair loss to reclaim their hair. Hair transplants allow you to have your own natural hair restored in areas that have been balding for years.
When done properly, your friends and family will never know you had a procedure done. It looks that natural – because it is. Unfortunately, not all hair transplants are done properly.
Some surgeons, whether because of laziness or inexperience, cut corners in hair transplant surgery which can cost patients the results of their procedure, leaving them with what we call a botched hair transplant surgery.
One of the ways in which surgeons can greatly effect the outcome of hair transplant surgery is with graft placement.
In order for the hair transplant to look like naturally growing, young, healthy hair, the grafts must be placed in a natural formation. This way, the transplanted grafts will blend right in with the surrounding native hairs, leaving no one the wiser that you’ve had a restorative procedure done.
Natural-looking graft placement takes time and expertise. It can be quite tolling on the surgeon, as they often have to put strain on their back, put in long hours without breaks, have steady hands, and a meticulous eye.
Inexperienced or lazy hair transplant surgeons rely on the use of machines or technicians to perform the bulk of the surgery and ease the difficultly and strain of high-quality hair transplants. This, unfortunately, causes an increase of risks such as scarring, plug-like looking grafts, damage to hair follicles, and low graft survival rate.
Your prospective hair restoration surgeon shouldn’t cut corners, and neither should you. Make sure that your hair transplant and investment will yield great results by thoroughly researching and asking questions.
Schedule a consultation today to see what your hair transplant could look like.

Do regular trims really help grow hair length?

If you’ve wondered this – you’re not alone. Many individuals choose to forego their hair cut, especially those who are attached to their precious locks. We decided to look into the science behind regular hair trims and find some proof for the claim that trims equal longer, healthier hair.
What we found is that while it may sound counter-intuitive to cut hair in order for it to grow longer, regular trims do in fact give you healthier, longer hair. They do this by eliminating and avoiding split-ends, boosting hair health and growth, and giving the hair a better appearance.
Split-ends
Split-ends occur when the outer layer of the hair, the hair cuticle, becomes damaged and breaks off. As the hair grows longer, the hair strand continues to split, damaging the hair higher up the strand. Despite many hair product’s claims to cure split-ends, there is no cure or proven prevention other than regular trims. Regular trims will keep split-ends at bay, keeping hair looking and feeling great.
Hair growth
While it’s true that hair grows from the root, you won’t get the long hair you desire when your hair is continually becoming damaged and breaking off. When hair strands are strong and healthy, they are allowed to grow longer, rather than breaking off due to the split-ends. This is how those regular trims contribute to longer hair growth.
Hair health
Regular trims will without a doubt help you maintain the health of your hair. And healthy hair means a better look and feel.

Could drinking alcohol be setting your health goals back?

Its no surprise to anyone with a health or fitness goal that alcohol is difficult to factor in. Alcoholic drinks are often high in calories, sugar, and carbohydrates. But does having a health or fitness goal mean you have to skip out on the alcohol all the time?
There’s no getting around the facts. High calories, high sugar content, and high carbohydrate intake are not conducive to a healthy diet or weight loss. In addition to the nutrition label, alcohol actually stalls your metabolism, so it can in fact set your health goals back.
That being said, life is about balance. And we know you work hard to maintain your health. That’s why we’ve compiled these tips on how to choose the healthiest alcoholic beverage when you’re out. Here’s how you can incorporate the occasional alcoholic beverage without derailing the healthy lifestyle you worked so hard for.
Go light. If you have to drink beer, go for the lighter alternative. Light beers, while they may not taste as good, can have just a fraction of the calories and/or carbohydrates.
Get back to the basics. Straight alcohol isn’t for everyone, its definitely an acquired taste. There’s a reason sugary drinks are the norm.. they taste better! That being said, straight alcohol has far fewer calories than their sugary counterparts. So if you can stomach it, skip the juice and soda mixers. Try a vodka soda or tequila on the rocks. You may surprise yourself.
Just have one or two. Stopping after just one or two drinks not only helps cut down on the calories, sugar, and carbs, it helps eliminate the hangover the next day too. Bonus! If you’re not ready to go home after one, but don’t want to hang with friends empty-handed, switch to a diet soda or sparkling water. You’ll still feel included and your friends won’t be the wiser.
